Symptoms: What to Look Out For
Type 2 diabetes can sneak up on you—you might feel fine until things get serious. That’s why it’s called a “silent” disease.
Here are some signs to look out for:
- Increased thirst or hunger (even after eating)
- Frequent urination
- Fatigue
- Blurry vision
- Cuts or bruises that take longer to heal
- Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
- Unexplained weight loss
If you’re experiencing any of these, or if diabetes runs in your family, get tested with a simple A1C blood test. It shows your average blood sugar levels over the last few months.
Also—don’t ignore prediabetes. That’s when your blood sugar levels are high but not quite diabetic yet. According to the American Diabetes Association, more than 1 in 3 U.S. adults has prediabetes, and most don’t know it.
