Alzheimer Symptoms
How do you know if it’s Alzheimer’s and not just abuelo’s forgetfulness? While only a doctor can make a clinical diagnosis, there are key signs to watch for:
Early Symptoms:
- Forgetting recently learned information
- Asking the same questions over and over
- Struggling to follow conversations or stories
- Getting lost in familiar places
- Misplacing items and not being able to retrace steps
- Changes in mood, personality, or social withdrawal
As the disease progresses, symptoms become more severe, such as not recognizing family members, needing help with hygiene, and becoming confused about time or places. Important: Memory loss that interferes with daily life is not a normal part of aging.
