Symptoms: Why You Can’t “Feel” High Cholesterol
High cholesterol has zero symptoms and that’s the tricky part. You can be walking around feeling totally fine while your arteries are slowly narrowing.
In some cases, people only find out they had high cholesterol after a heart attack or stroke—which is why screening is everything.
Most doctors recommend:
- Cholesterol blood tests starting at age 20, repeated every 4-6 years if results are normal.
- More frequent testing if you have risk factors like diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, or a family history of heart disease.
Talk to your doctor sooner if you’re Latinx—especially if heart issues run in your family.
